May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness month and we at Made Two Manifest would like to help spread awareness on this topic.

Mental health is a person’s emotional and social well-being. It has to do with how we feel, how we think, and how we behave. We can connect with others, make decisions, and handle stress using our emotions and social awareness skills. If you have poor mental health, it can negatively affect your relationships, decision making skills, and has a poor effect on how you handle stress. Mental health plays a big role in overall well-being, and just like your physical health can change throughout your life so can your mental health.

Mental illness is not caused by one single thing but by many things called risk-factors. The more risk-factors a person has the more likely that person will develop a mental health condition later in life. If you would like to check your mental health by taking a quick quiz, go to www.MHAscreening.org.

Our family has longed suffered from mental illness, and for a long time it was taboo to even mention mental health. It was hard to speak of our mental health struggle when we knew that we would be labeled as weak minded, or lazy, from those that we thought would support us unconditionally. For a long time, there was a hurt and anger against those that did not support us, but one day we realized that they had been taught that way. Our parents had been taught that you don’t cry when things get hard, you stiffen up that upper lip and keep going. They were taught you just keep pushing through and not to even stop to acknowledge the feeling. As a result of our parent’s upbringing, they were not taught how to maintain good mental health and therefore didn’t know how to teach us. We are here to break the cycle of bad mental health. Our family has finally started opening up and acknowledging all of the trauma of the past to build a family with good mental health that can be passed on to the next generation. Will you join us?
